Tom Rogic has responded to the high praise of Scottish great Kenny Dalglish by scoring for Celtic against Dundee in his 150th appearance for the Hoops.

Rogic netted the opening goal of Celtic’s 5-0 thrashing of Dundee in the Scottish Premier League on Wednesday.

Only days earlier, the Socceroos playmaker had been singled out for high praise from former Celtic, Liverpool and Scotland great Kenny Dalglish.

Writing in his Sunday Post column, Dalglish said Rogic was “maturing into one of the finest players in the UK” in his role for Brendan Rodgers’ men.

“Tom Rogic missed the midweek game and I’m sure Brendan Rodgers didn’t want to risk him as he is such an important player,” Dalglish wrote ahead of the Scottish League Cup semi-final against Hearts which they won 3-0.

“He is maturing into one of the finest players in the UK in the role he plays just off the main striker.

“If he is fit, he brings so much more quality to the Hoops.”

Dalglish, affectionately known as King Kenny by Liverpool fans, scored 112 goals in 204 appearances for Celtic and 118 goals in 335 appearances for the Reds.

He also scored 30 goals in 102 appearances for Scotland, before managing Liverpool, Blackburn, Newcastle, Celtic and then Liverpool once more.

Rogic was rested in Celtic’s Europa Cup loss to RB Leipzig, but played the full 90 minutes in the cup win over Hearts.

The midfielder is expected to play a major role for Socceroos coach Graham Arnold in January’s Asian Cup.
