Selena Gomez no more: Cristiano Ronaldo reigns on Instagram
Cristiano Ronaldo is in, and Selena Gomez is out. On Instagram, that is. On Monday, the “Taki Taki” singer’s 2-year reign as the most-followed celebrity on Instagram came to end as the hunky Portuguese soccer star took over the crown, according to Elle.
Ronaldo, 33 years-old, is one of the most prominent figures in the world of sports. His tally is at 144,352,910 followers, while the 26-year-old Grand Prairie, Texas, native has 144,325,743 followers. Gomez took the No. 1 spot from pop star Taylor Swift in 2016.
Gomez’s static growth rate is likely due to her disappearance from the social media platform. On September 23, she posted an announcement that she was taking a break from social media.

Her message reads, “… Update: taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given.”
“Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi,” she added.

On October 11, Gomez was reportedly hospitalized for mental health treatment. Two weeks prior to the incident, she was hospitalized twice for dialectical behavior.
Then again, what’s not to like about Ronaldo posts including images of his 22-year-old girlfriend, who is pursuing a career as a model, his workout sessions, and his choice of underwear?
We’d be remiss not to mention Ronaldo’s current legal woes as he is being sued by a Nevada woman who said he badually badaulted her in the penthouse suite of a Las Vegas hotel in 2009. For more details, see story below.
