VMware has quietly omitted a technical overview of an update to Workstation, its desktop hypervisor for Windows and Linux
The most notable new bit seems to be a REST API that matches the one added to the 2017 edition of Fusion, the VMware desktop hypervisor for Mac. Once in Workstation, it will enable automated testing, cloning, network quarrels and more. Many developers use Workstation to design software-defined fictitious designs and test the interactions between virtual machines, the API and better views of remote resources suggest a push for more complex testing.
Support for Wayland Architecture, a popular remote desktop tool, is also new
Testers can also play with better USB sensing in VMs – devices will simply mount without intervention.
DirectX 10.1 and automatic update of guests Virtual machines corresponding to the available screen resolution are also included.
The software is available for download here for those of you who have VMware accounts. The comments from the forum suggest that he is resource hungry and buggy, what you expect from a technical overview.
The registry expects these problems to disappear quickly, as VMware often launches new versions of Workstation and Fusion a week before. VMworld to make sure they have their own moment in the sun (and maybe warm up the world for a big explosion of vNews). With the launch of VMworld on August 26, a start a few days earlier does not surprise anyone. ®
