"Why do not you die right away?" The exasperated villain who shouts this question to Tom Cruise Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Fallout deserves the awful fate that awaits him. The stupid rabbit should know that our tireless hero is now in his 22nd year of dizzying execution, dazzling stunts. It's not even close to slowing down. And the new, very nice chapter of the saga is the preeminent popcorn movie of the summer.
Yup, Cruise is still at the top of his art – not to mention the summit of a Parisian skyscraper. You have to see it, preferably in IMAX, to really believe it. Thought cruise reached its peak adrenaline when it hung from a moving aircraft in the early instants of 2015 Rogue Nation ? Rookie move. Now he can use a helicopter flying like an army baseball bat, crush him, and then have enough fuel in his tank to fight his enemy while swinging the cliff of a snow-capped mountain. It's just a white play in a movie with them. By the way, the prologue in this episode is a twisty old-school comedy delight. Think of it as a cracker before this familiar wick is lit.
For all the deadly sensations of Fallout, there is a freshness in the story because it's the first to inspire from the plot of his predecessor. Remember Solomon Lane ( Sean Harris ), the scoffing British sneaking agent of Rogue Nation ? Probably not, which is good. Although he is now in government custody, he is still a powerful player in the crime syndicate. This time, the group is determined to use plutonium to trigger mbadive global bombs. Hunt chooses to accept a mission that consists of pinching plutonium – and no, the Libyans of Back to the Future do not have it.
This is not a solo operation. Hunt with the help of his usual group of experts – played by the very romantic Ving Rhames the comic maestro Simon Pegg and the nostril Alec Baldwin . And because the IMF's spy brand has never appealed to Washington DC, a new CIA chief ( Angela Bbadett ) sinks his own guy ( Henry Cavill ) with the crew. The Mustached Cavill is more comfortable in tearing up the biggest movie star of the last 35 years than he is wearing Superman's Manerman Cloak . Meanwhile, the former enemy Ilsa ( Rebecca Ferguson ) has her own diary with Lane. The ferocious femme fatale is as tough as her male counterparts.
The group jumps from Berlin to Paris via London and Kashmir, leaving a bloody trail and a lot of destruction in their wake. Still, the violence is smooth enough to warrant a derisory PG-13 rating. All the more applauding than the writer / director Christopher McQuarrie (who wrote Edge of Tomorrow and the Usual Suspects ) has so many things here book M: I 7, M: I 8 and M: I 9 too. When it seems like the big narrative arc can end – the audience of my projection room literally bursts into applause following some discovery – it's really just a starting point for the III climactic act.
The truth is, if you've seen one Mission: Impossible movie since 1996, you've seen them all. But this adage only means that you are again looking for a breathtaking, comically tingling actionpalooza. A fighting scene in a glitzy nightclub bathroom is more choreographed than the finale of a Broadway musical. Spectators flock to these M: I movies to see such features as globe-trotting adventures, high-tech toys, illogical intrigues and rubber masks designed to fool you in all kinds of fun ways. BTW, I do not know how IMG gets the budget to make these masks perfectly sculpted, but they get me every time. The patented madness of live-wire can be immensely satisfying.
Just like seeing a good star of action give its maximum. Cruise, who turned 56 on July 3, is finally starting to show some signs of wear. He broke his ankle by jumping from a building; there is something light with his face (do not judge, just observe.) But he never fails to disappoint in this role. And it is the first reason why this franchise remains robust. It is possible that he will soon retire from the concert. Let's make sure that our mission is to make sure that this is not the case
