Triumph is applying two of its strongest talents – off-road ability and retro styling – to create its new Scrambler 1200 range.

Two versions will be released, including a more rugged XE model.

The styling taps into the current craze for retro-looking scramblers, and Triumph does this particularly well. While it might have some old charm to its looks, the Scrambler 1200 has plenty of the latest technology onboard.

Powering these new models is the latest Bonneville High Power 1,200cc engine. With an output of 90hp at 7,400rpm, it is 12.5 per cent more potent than the Bonneville T120 and 38 per cent more powerful than the Street Scrambler.

The new engine is tuned to deliver 110Nm of torque, which arrives at 3,950rpm. Like its other engines, the Scrambler uses a throttle for better responsiveness.

Triumph is also fitting the Scrambler 1200 with what it calls a torque badist, designed to reduce the amount of effort required to operate it.

To add some comfort over longer journeys, Triumph fits standard cruise control on both versions. The 1200 XE gets heated grips, while they're optional on the XC.

Providing cornering and providing more control over XE models. There are six riding modes to choose from, including an Off-Road Pro setting for the XE.

Its round headlight features LED lighting and a USB charging socket.

Another nifty feature for riders who like to record their trips is the world's first GoPro control system enabling operation for photo and video capture via the switchgear.

There is fully adjustable suspension at either end, with Showa forks up front and an Ohlins long-travel shock at the rear.

The Scrambler 1200 XC will be available in Jet Black and Matt Black or Khaki Green and Brooklands Green, while the Scrambler will be available in White Fusion and Brooklands Green Gold Cobalt Blue and Jet Black.
