Tyrone plans to return Croke Park beyond Super 8, according to Conor McAliskey

Croke Park seemed a long way off for Tyrone and Conor McAliskey as they left Healy Park after being beaten by Monaghan on May 20th.

If they want to see the pitch before the end of this championship, they Roscommon must be reported tonight, with Dublin at Omagh and Donegal at Ballybofey coming.

"You have three games with Croke Park as a neutral place, it's going to be very important to get a good start in the Super 8," said McAliskey.

"We will need at least a few wins to go into the semi-finals, and Dublin will come to Omagh in a few weeks so we can not afford to turn the ball against Roscommon."

"At the beginning of year, everyone trains with the same target. We have worked hard for the McKenna Cup and the League, but the one we are all aiming for is the most important at the end of the year.

"It's still far away. Our main goal was to reach the Super 8, but we want to qualify for the Super 8."

With this fifth league match since his defeat against Monaghan, McAliskey has agreed that this setback is now very old.

"Yes, it is, especially because of the amount of games we have played since.

"The matches are coming to us every week and if you sit around waiting for games, it becomes a very long brake for the next match.

" We think we have not fulfilled our potential against Monaghan and we certainly did not get the result we wanted.

Conor McAliskey of Tyrone celebrates a goal

"We had to dust ourselves off and we had to travel a bit, but it helped to create a bond between the boys.

" We set a target to do the Super 8 and now we have arrived, now it's time to settle down and focus on the next game at Croke Park. "

McAliskey hit 1-6 last Saturday's demolition of Cork to continue his good recent form and admits that he is savoring it now.

"Yes, especially after missing last year with an injury. I was anxious to get back into the league and I wanted to come to a stage where I could achieve a good level of performance and, fortunately, I had that chance.

"It's something you miss when you do not have it and you enjoy it when you get a series of games every week."

However, he says that he did not feel any extra pressure to produce the goods after injuries to his colleagues Lee Brennan and Mark Bradley.

"I knew people said that and Lee and Mark were doing well all year long

" We obviously knew we had to expand our panel to the limit but Richie [Donnelly] arrived and Is very well suited on the front-back line.

"Ronan O'Neill and Harry Loughran were there to provide this extra option inside.

" When you have injuries, you have to look at the depth of your team and I think that Is something we can be proud of because we have men who can enter. "

" You look at the game Meath and the impact that Cathal [McShane] did, you look at it. " the impact Rory and Harry had, Rory and Harry's vision popping up at the back post to score that goal against Meath in overtime.

"I think it's our merit as a team that we can deliver."

PREDICTION

When you are in the same group as Dublin and you probably need two wins, it is better to look at your other two opponents as the most likely source of points.

That's why this game is so important for both counties and the loser will do well to be still in a scream at the last round of games.

Roscommon's visits to Croke Park have become more frequent in recent years, suggesting that they work at a higher level, but the fact that they did not win championship since 1980 raises questions about their ability to progress.

Tyrone has a lot of positive experiences on Croke Park and with Roscommon who dispatched 1 to 19 to Armagh, Mickey Harte's men will imagine their chances of building a winning point here.

Verdict: Tyrone
