Ulster Rugby decided to solve his problems by signing Billy Burns for a two-year contract with Gloucester.
Since the departure of Christian Lealiifano at the end of January, the province has remained without experience. Former Irish international Johnny McPhillips made his debut in February, while John Cooney was replaced by the scrum-half.
Paddy Jackson, Ulster's long-time first choice, saw his contract revoked in April following a revision of the IRFU. Last March, Jackson and his mate Ulster Stuart Olding were acquitted of the same woman's rape in June 2016, Jackson having also been cleared. Jackson then moved to Perpignan.
IRFU attempted to rectify the situation by transferring Joey Carbery from Leinster to Belfast, but the 22-year-old had instead chosen to join Munster for a two-year contract.
Burns (24), a younger brother from England and Freddie Bath, who has made more than 100 appearances in Gloucester since he debuted at age 17, completed his move Monday. He is Irish qualified.
