The bout was close for the first six rounds. In fact, many observers had Bellew winning through half the bout. In the seventh round, Usyk started to make headway, landing more combinations. Bellew’s pace was slowing, and he wasn’t slipping the combinations as he was in the early rounds.

Bellew seemed to make it clear this was his last fight. The Liverpool native has had a noteworthy career with success at multiple weight divisions. At the age of 36, he clashed with one of the sport’s best pound-for-pound fighters, held his own for a good while, but succumbed to youth, superior talent and power.
His retirement seems fitting, should he stick to the decision, but in boxing, you never can tell.
Usyk has reigned over the cruiserweight division for two years and has clearly established himself as the best in the weight clbad. It’s obvious, his next challenge is in the heavyweight division. He declined to confirm that on Saturday night, but all signs point that way. With the likely end to his domination at cruiserweight upon us, much like Terence Crawford who bolted 140 pounds for the welterweight division and bigger paydays, Usyk will be looking in the direction of opponents like Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and/or Tyson Fury.
The 31-year-old is a little small by today’s heavyweight standards at 6’3", but his skill level, athleticism, and power are intriguing on the next level. Soon, we’ll get a chance to see if he can continue his success as a heavyweight.
