rapper XXXTentacion signed a $ 10 million deal for his third studio album several weeks before being shot in south Florida last month, according to three sources close to the case, reported to the New York Times.

XXXTentacion, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy, signs the contract with Empire, the independent record company that releases his first two albums. "17", his debut album, debuted at # 2 on the Billboard Albums chart last summer, and his second album, "?", Hit # 1 on the chart when released in April.

Ghazi Shami, the founder of the Empire, told the Times that Onfroy had recorded "a significant amount of material" for his third album. The album will not be available until October due to a clause of the latest Onfroy contract with Universal Music Group.

Onfroy's music experienced a dramatic spike in streaming numbers following his death last month.

His single "Sad!" jumped from No. 52 to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart the week after his death. The song was later accompanied by a strange and posthumous video, filmed before his death but released a week later, in which Onfroy attended his own funeral and fought with his own corpse.

Onfroy was shot dead in his car last month outside of a motor sports shop in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The Broward County police then arrested and charged a 22-year-old man named Dedrick D. Williams with a first degree murder in connection with Onfroy's death.

At the time of his death, Onfroy was awaiting trial for a spousal abuse case in 2016. He faced battery charges aggravated by his pregnant girlfriend, domestic strangulation battery unjustified imprisonment and falsification of a witness.
