JERUSALEM, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) – Children of uneducated women are likely to remain unvaccinated or are vaccinated late compared to others, according to a study released Wednesday by the Israeli University Ben-Gurion (BGU).
The study shows that there is an inverse relationship between the formal education level of mothers and the likelihood that children aged 2 to 4 years receive the full program of recommended immunizations from the mothers. State, as expected.
The review of the records, which included 2,072 subjects in 5 maternal and child health centers in southern Israel during the 2015-2016 period, focused on vaccines against hepatitis A and B, diphtheria, acellular tetanus, whooping cough and measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox.
The Israeli Ministry of Health calls for vaccination of children against diseases between 18 months and 7 years.
According to the study, mothers' education was inversely badociated with the probability of delaying vaccination by 4 to 9%.
No correlation between paternal education levels and time to vaccination was found.
The researchers conclude that higher education emphasizing the importance of timely immunization could also serve as a catalyst for improving other health-related behaviors.
