If you have varicose veins or varicose veins, then you are not alone. The US Department of Health and Human Services estimates that 50-55% of adult women face abnormal veins and 40-45% of men.
Many people do not seek treatment because they are embarrbaded. the effectiveness of treatment or worry about the painful procedure. Christina Hopps, certified medical badistant and Kristen Schwab, nurse specialized in the treatment of spider vein, came to learn more.
Spiders and varicose veins are both caused by a bad valve function, usually in the legs of a person. To return to the heart, the blood in the legs must move against gravity. To do this, it circulates through unidirectional valves in the legs that open and close so that the blood can not flow backwards. When these valves weaken, the blood eventually accumulates in the vein, causing an increase in pressure and an increase in the vein.
Varicose veins are large swollen blood vessels that twist and turn. They usually develop in the legs and can be seen through the skin.
Spider veins are a softer form of varicose veins. They are smaller vessels, red, purple and blue that twist and turn. Spider veins are easily visible through the skin, as well. They are usually visible on the legs and face.
Aging, pregnancy, obesity, lack of movement and / or sun exposure can all be contributing factors to varicose veins and varicosities. While they are rarely life or death, they can increase the serious risks. Generally, abnormal veins can produce a burning and painful pain. Your legs may feel heavy and tired. They can swell, making the skin itchy and irritated by compromised circulation. Daily activities can become painful, or you can avoid doing them. This affects the quality of life and a healthy level of activity. If you suffer from venous disease and you do not treat it, more dangerous risks, such as blood clots, can occur.
Varicose veins may be the early symptom of something else. In many cases, there is much more than just a cosmetic problem. However, there are ways to avoid and treat these veins.
Tips for reducing the risk of spider veins
- Wearing sunscreen
- Avoiding high heels
- Walking / running regularly to strengthen muscles and circulation
- Maintain a healthy weight to allow optimal blood
- Raising legs at rest
- Wearing compression stockings
In addition to these precautions, people with varicose veins and varicosities may try sclerotherapy. In this procedure, the spider veins are injected with a solution that scars and closes these veins. In a few weeks, the treated veins should fade. Although the same vein needs to be injected more than once, sclerotherapy is effective if done properly. Sclerotherapy does not require anesthesia and can be performed in your doctor's office.
