As announced last week, Volvo is attending the Los Angeles Auto Show without exposing cars on its stand. A relative choice to shift the focus on vehicles to mobility, with dedicated activities as part of the new M brand, with which the company intends to provide on-demand access through an application, collecting information about the needs, preferences and habits of the user.

At the last big meeting of the year for car shows, the Swedish manufacturer has announced the latest sensor lidar Luminar, an American start-up specializing in the development of advanced sensors for autonomous vehicles, acquired last June partly through the investment fund Tech Fund. Technological exploits pulsed laser signals to detect objects and enable cars to handle complex traffic contexts and higher speeds safely, offering them the same reliable long-range perception capabilities.

In addition to transforming the vision of transport with driverless vehicles into reality, as the 360c concept already shows, technology is enriched with new features. By refining the capabilities of the sensors, Luminar and Volvo continue to progress on the Lidar, with a new technology able to detect objects remotely up to 250 meters (superior to any other Lidar technology), allowing the system to identify the human body and the details of each individual member.
