Aids, new diagnoses of hiv

In 2017 in Italy, 3,443 new diagnoses of HIV infection were reported, or 5.7 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a figure in line with the European average. This is what is said, on the occasion of the World Day of December 1, data from the operational center AIDS (Coa) of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (Iss).

"The incidence (case / population) of new HIV diagnoses shows a slight decrease between 2012 and 2015, with an almost stable trend after 2015 – lit-on -. In 2017, the highest incidence of HIV infection is in the 25 to 29 age group. The main mode of transmission between new HIV diagnoses is through heterobadual relationships. "In 2017, among regions of more than one and a half million residents, rates of incidence the highest were recorded in Lazio, Liguria and Tuscany.

The people who discovered that they were HIV positive in 2017 were men in 76.2% of cases. The median age was 39 years for men and 34 years for women. In the case of AIDS, the observatory recorded 690, an incidence of 1.1 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a slight decrease in recent years.
