Air Liquide is a partner of Energy Observer, the world's first ship powered by hydrogen and renewable energies, today in Venice, at the 23rd stage of its route.

Moored at the marina of the island of Certosa, the boat will stay there until July 16th. To better understand the initiative, it will be possible to visit the specially arranged, interactive and educational village, open from 7 to 15 July.

The voyage undertaken by the ship, called "Odyssey of the Future" began in June 2017 from Saint-Malo (Brittany) . Launched by Captain Victorian Erussard and explorer Jerome Delafosse, the voyage aims to achieve a 6-year world tour that will bring the team to 50 countries providing 101 stops, with the main goal of achieving self-sufficiency through the coupling of energy and production of carbon-free hydrogen . To ensure the energy self-sufficiency of the ship throughout the expedition, day and night, the hydrogen produced by the electrolysis of seawater is compressed and stored and converted into electricity via a fuel cell. Hydrogen, vector of energy, offsets the intermittency of renewable energies

With over 20 years of experience in the development of hydrogen, especially in the sector of Mobility, Air Liquide supports this science and technology project that demonstrates the role of hydrogen in the energy transition. The Group's decision to support this project demonstrates its ambition to contribute to a more sustainable world.

Air Liquide manages the entire hydrogen supply chain, from production to storage, distribution and development of end-user applications, contributing to the dissemination of the use of hydrogen as clean energy. To date, 100 hydrogen stations have already been designed and installed by Air Liquide worldwide.
