Best strategies on the 51 rounds of the GP of Azerbaijan (Pirelli data)

The One Stop Shop strategy is clearly the best choice for the Baku Grand Prix, from the mildest to the meanest, or from the average to the softest. There is little difference between the two options. Nevertheless, the pitfall window in Azerbaijan is very wide and opens as early as the 15th lap. The tactic can be clearly influenced by the safety car's entry, but the two-stop strategy, on paper, is slower.

conclusions
The three editions up to now in Baku were won by those who started on pole (Rosberg 2016), in tenth place (Ricciardo 2017) and in second place (Hamilton 2018); demonstrating that the starting field on the grid concerns the circuit of the city of Azerbaijan. Everything will be tied to the exit of the safety car on the track, which can suddenly redistribute the cards. Even Charles Leclerc, who will start ninth, will express from the point of view of the race. A SC in the first half of the grand prix could favor Monegasque's average tires, as well as the two new flexible tires still available for the race could give it an extra boost in case of further stoppage favored by the presence of the safety car.

On a circuit with a very long straight line, it will also be important for overtaking maneuvers. In this perspective, the Ferrari on the finish line have an advantage of 3/4 km / h on the Silver Arrows, according to the qualifications. Front-line teams Hamilton and Bottas, however, could push the Mercedes to cover in the first round. But as tradition in Baku is, nothing will be certain before the checkered flag. Just look at the current exchange of positions in 2018.
