Marco Mengoni started again, after two years of rest, he started running again. He did it in the middle of the night, with a very impressive showcase which, at 2:30 in the morning, inaugurated from Milan Central Station, in music, the intense marathon of the launch of Atlantic, the new album released November 30 with Sony Music.
"It was just starting from what is a place of departure par excellence, the stationMarco said to the press the next day, not at all asleep, even if a little chilled.
"But it's emotion," he says, blowing.
The truth, however, is that it has never stopped at this time away from the scenes. "After three intense years related to the last project, I felt physically exhausted, gave all my energy and I wanted to recharge my batteries. So I packed my bags and left. I have made many trips, mainly "real" but also mental, psychological. I broke away from everyday life and went to meet different cultures and influences.
The result of his wandering around the world – which led him to fly over the Atlantic, hence the title of the album – is in the disc, which is full of music and "other" sounds: Latin, African, Arabic, Cuban, Portuguese.
During these trips, explains Mengoni, "I badyzed a lot of things about myself and realized that I needed more slowness". This? "In some cases, I let time go by instead of doing something that would do me good, it takes time to think about what we are going through, but also to be able to live what we have. I forced myself to be alonebut also to stay close to people. I went for silence. No regrets, I try not to have them, it's wrong ".
Atlantic it was also the opportunity to learn to say "I want", the title of one of the three singles already released (the last is Hola), and the word up to now "from my imprint", as Marco admits, far from his parents who arrived in Milan for the release of the album and who taught him to " never say what I want. "
in AtlanticMengoni, however, also managed to release his "artistic intimacy": until now, he had never managed to collaborate with other artists on a disc of previously unpublished works. Hola in which he sings with Tom Walker ("we are now brothers, we hear almost every day") and a cameo of Adriano Celentano in Atlantic. "I understood that I did not have to be jealous of written pieces, I had to defeat individualism," he says.
Waiting to see him live on stage (all dates of MengoniLive2019 here), Marco will be the protagonist of Atlantic Day, a two-day event in Milan linked to the album and filled with encounters, live and artistic installations (like the one in collaboration with the
National Geographic in Torre Velasca, seat of the festival).
"I wanted the music to get people on a path, so I asked my team to do all that," he says before bursting into tears, thanking the people who made it all possible. "That's what you care about, I can even allow myself to cry a little," he said, taking a handkerchief from the stalls.
But do not be fooled by so much emotion: as he told us in the book video interview that you see aboveMarco Mengoni being moved does not happen (almost) ever. Although there are many moments, even "little ones", that make him feel good and make him happy. We are sure, you will never guess …
