(ANSA-AP) – ROME, NOVEMBER 28TH – There would be a second pregnancy
in progress "at the very beginning" with embryos with DNA
edited. He said He Jiankui, the Chinese researcher
that a few days ago announced that he had already given birth to two
twins whose genomes have been altered during
International Summit on Human Genome Publishing underway in Hong Kong
Kong, adding however that the experiment is now suspended due to
of the controversy that has arisen.
He admitted that there were eight couples involved
in the experiment and said that he was "out of sync" with the results
achieved. "The volunteers – said the scientist – were
informed of the risks of involuntary DNA changes,
but they decided to implant the embryos ".
During his speech, He Jiankui explained the different phases
of the test, started with tests on animals a few years ago.
All data would be sent to a scientific journal
for publication, even if no one has been specified.
