This is the text of the note delivered to the Arma dei Carabinieri from Milan of an eight year old boy. A message written entirely in capital letters, with a blue pen on a white sheet. And a lot of red hearts. But what matters most is the content of the message. Those of the child are words full of gratitude: the riflemen in fact arrested the violent father, ending a long and painful family affair that had lasted for years.

The father, a 31-year-old Moroccanhe would have raised his hands more than once for the mother, a 26 year old Italian. And often, the violence took place in front of eight- and two-year-olds.
