Syria, the stages: the demonstrations of 2011, the arrival of the caliphate and the two negotiations

by GIAMPAOLO CADALANU

On June 19, Damascus and Moscow had launched a government offensive, encircling and isolating Daraa gradually from the rest of its suburbs, already for days largely returned to the control of the governmental forces and the Russian police. The Syrian state television showed today images of the national flag hoisted on the central square of Daraa, on a high electric transmission tower in the area long controlled by the insurgents.

The event follows the agreement between the Russian emissaries and the rebels, according to which the rebels agreed to leave Daraa. Ibrahim Jabbawi, the rebel spokesman, told the Syrian Dpa news agency that the agreement calls the rebels to hand over heavy weapons, in exchange for the regime's approval to leave Daraa and head north.

The World Health Organization has now asked for badistance to 210,000 Syrians in the south of the country and an urgent need for medical badistance.
