Audi organized on the occasion of Los Angeles Auto Show a presentation in the biggest style of the new expectation e-tron GT, an electric vehicle of 590 hp with a charging system that works at 800 volts. The famous actor took part in the event Robert Downey Jr, while the technical part was entrusted to Marc Lichte, lead designer of the new Audi electric car, has organized a round table with journalists detailing the benefits of electrification and the greater freedom of decision it gives designers.
Audi e-tron GT is based on the J1 platform present in another highly anticipated sports car, also shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show, or at the Porsche Taycan. Although Porsche in a second phase of development, scheduled for 2025, will move to the next-generation platform PPE Premium Performance Electric. Both are able to bypbad an autonomy 100 kilometers with just 4 minutes charge and of 400 kilometers with less 20 minutes charge. All this is possible thanks to the use of the Porsche Mission E platform.
Charging services of this type are also indicated for the Audi e-tron SUV, which can charge just over 150 kW up to 70% of battery life. From this point of view, the new vehicles based on the Mission E system should therefore exceed the most recent Tesla, even if a real confirmation will only occur in the coming years, when they are available on the market ( 2020 for the new GT).
Audi claims that its technology of battery cooling during charging to make the difference compared to previous concept systems. Technology that will allow the GT e-tron to perform better on the track, where it will be able to maintain maximum speed for longer than competing cars. In fact, the system is designed to keep the operating temperature of the lithium ion battery between 20 and 40 ° C, even in the most critical situations. In the case of the Taycan Porsche, the batteries are manufactured by LG Chem with 4 volt cells developed specifically for Taycan.
Audi plans to focus more and more on electrification, with 15 electric models that will figure in its list by 2025, which corresponds to 30% of the total price of the German automaker.
For home loading, Audi will provide a charger for 40A 240V and to that end he works with Amazon for the installation of sockets NEMA 14-50 (in the USA). The charging system corresponding to Jaguar I-Pace's home is less powerful than 8 amps, while Tesla's best-performing solution runs at 8 amperes. With regard to transfers, more realistically during the first marketing period, these vehicles can be loaded via the standard connector. CCS Combo, which is currently able to offer a charging voltage of 50 kW, requiring about one hour for 80% of the battery life.
The Audi e-tron GT is a full-wheel drive vehicle with 2 electric thrusters capable of acceleration. from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds and reach the 200 km / h in a little over 12 seconds. The maximum speed accessible from 240 km / h with the vehicle equipped with rims 22 ", to which the tires are combined 285/30. In the badpit is a triple display infotainment system and a center console suspended from the rest of the dashboard. The lithium battery mounted at the rear of the vehicle has a capacity of 90 kWh.
