The other maturity 2018: stories of guys who did IB: so we learn to understand the world

A title that has in the pockets the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the King of Holland, Guglielmo; Marina Catena, head of the UNESCO Food Program and Dustin Moskovitz, co-founder of Facebook. And, with them, one million students worldwide who attend one of the 4,700 schools – public and private – that offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma, an international maturity equivalent to the exam of Italian State. The dates coincide: while the students of our house were preparing their maturity, other students were engaged in IB Diploma tests, which can be done in 150 countries, internationally recognized and allows registration in the best universities. The program is different: the IB covers the last two years of high school, involves the study of six subjects (about 40), at the advanced or standard level, to choose from six different disciplines and which must include a mix of scientific and humanistic subjects. The program enriched by three fundamental values: Theory of knowledge; a extended essay (an article), 4 thousand words on a subject chosen by the candidate; and a creative activity involving volunteer or community service activities. The rigorous program, open to global problems, aims to develop critical thinking, keep curiosity alive, constantly engage students in the learning process. Combine traditional topics with skills positively badessed by universities and employers. Final examinations, conducted by external examiners, take place at the end of the last year, usually in May. Tasks are evaluated by expert teachers around the world, who follow common badessment grids and are subject to cross-checks. If then a candidate is not satisfied with the accuracy and the badessment of his task, he may request a proofreading. The diploma is awarded with a minimum of 24 points out of 45.
