The limpid and cold air at dawn this morning was enough to give a glimpse of the lava blasts on Mount Etna with regard to eastern Sicily and lovers of photos and videos: Strombolian activity, between highs and lows, denounces since last July a certain "liveliness" of the highest volcano of Europe and the world heritage of Unesco. "In fact, three of the five craters of Etna are active – explains the volcanologist of the Etnian Observatory of Ingv, Marco Neri – and what offers more spectacular images in recent weeks is the new southeastern crater, currently formed of an alignment of cracks facing the Valle del Bove and therefore clearly visible from all the inhabited centers of the eastern slope ". Etna's current activity is uncomfortable and is, in essence, a spectacle for tourists and fans, such as those who filmed this video in the early morning: Giò Giusa, photo-hiker and divulger in love with the "Muntagna", as the Catanians affectionately call "their" volcano. The current phase of activity, which concerns not only the New Southeast, but also the craters of the Northeast and the new Bocca (currently the two craters of Central Voragine seem inactive), could last for months, as this has already been done on other occasions: "One fact is certain – says Neri – despite the suggestions of non-professionals, such a phase is not absolutely anticipative on real eruptions, with lava flows on the flanks ". Yet, in the images taken, and especially in the photos, there seems to be a cast: "This is not the case, these are just shreds of strombolian incandescent lava explosions that end at foot of the crater – warns Neri – the rest is done in the light of the night and long exposures of the lenses of the cameras ".
