what works and what does not work, in the biographical paper on Freddie Mercury

The wait, at least for the Italian spectators, was long, even exhausting. The famous movie about Freddie Mercury, who had already had his long and tortuous gestation – it took almost a decade of false starts, constant cast changes, director and screenwriter to complete it and get to the end credits – will be in our rooms the November 29. In the United States, it has already been published on the 2nd, in the United Kingdom even on October 24th. This comes to us two days after World AIDS Day (December 1), but it's only one case.

Although yes, of course, Freddie Mercury, of AIDS, died at age 45 on November 24th. 1991 revealing to the world that he was sick forty-eight hours ago. Explosive personality, already legend of music and rock with i Queen, Mercury – pseudonym of Farrokh Bulsara, that's his real name – then became a little symbol of the fight against HIV, having been one of the first and most famous antecedents of HIV infection.

AIDS, despite the lack of quote in the trailer that indignant fans, is also mentioned in the film. But it is better to say that he "mentions it", a bit like the rest: the parsian origins and childhood in Zanzibar (never mentioned); the Zoroastrian family of religion from India settled in Britain and had initially not considered favorably what Freddie was becoming; the link with the (ex) girlfriend then a friend of life, Mary Austin; the turbulent relationship with the managers and members of the group; the admission of his (bi) baduality; the discovery of seropositivity.

The screenplay was written by Peter Morgan, author of The Queen and Frost / Nixon – The duel, rewritten by Anthony McCarten (The theory of everything and The darkest hour), finally retouched. And from that maybe a little on the big screen is affected. Given the many facets (and glanings) of the character, it might have been more effective to devote biopic "targeted"as he did in Neruda and Jackie director Pablo Larraín, rather than pursuing completeness in vain. The film tells the story of the entire epic of Freddie Mercury, airport attendant Heathrow, star of world music, but does not sacrifice complexity.

Also because of its long genesis, Bohemian Rhapsody raises great expectations: across the Channel and overseas, there are those who have remained enthusiastic and those who are deeply disappointed. And we are sure that it will be like that too of us. After seeing it in preview, we tried to draw conclusions. in the gallery above >>
