It’s complicated: the Zenith Chronomaster Sport, with the El Primero 3600 caliber

The El Primero 400 caliber is an anachronism, but wonderful. The first high-frequency automatic chronograph movement, it was introduced (along with the Seiko 6309 and the Breitling / Heuer / Buren 01 caliber) in 1969 and has, surprisingly enough, persisted to the present day. The movement design, however, is also a relic of its time – for example, there are a number of different sized screws, more than you would see in a movement designed today, making it relatively time consuming to manufacture. , labor-intensive and expensive. The Chronomaster Sport, launched today by Zenith, uses a new movement: the Caliber 3600, which is designed to reduce the number of parts, take advantage of modern materials and manufacturing processes and provide improved functionality.
