MEDFORD, Ore – Jackson and Josephine counties are seeing unprecedented levels of new Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations. Data from the Oregon Health Authority shows that from Tuesday to Friday last week, Josephine County experienced 222 cases of Covid-19 and Jackson County 602 cases.
On Monday, August 2, health officials for the counties of Josephine and Jackson both announced weekly records of Covid-19 cases for their respective counties.
For Josephine County, health officials have reported 256 cases and for Jackson County, health officials say the county has seen 626 cases of Covid-19.
But with the new Covid-19 infection rates reaching levels not seen before last week, health officials told NewsWatch 12 they expected a new weekly record of Covid cases. -19 is reported on Monday.
It comes as hospitalizations in Region 5, which includes both Jackson and Josephine counties, are breaking all records.
Data from Jackson County Public Health shows 104 people are now hospitalized with Covid-19 in both counties. This crushes the Region’s previous record of 69, which was down months ago.
Earlier last week, Asante told NewsWatch 12 that 70 of the 104 hospitalizations in the region are spread across their three Rogue Valley hospitals, forcing medical staff to be creative in finding additional beds for patients.
