JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Just days before losing a battle with COVID-19, a TikTok video maker from Jacksonville urged her viewers to get vaccinated.
” Do not wait. Go get it, ”Megan Blankenbiller says in the video. “Because I hope if you get it you don’t end up in the hospital like me.” “
Blankenbiller recorded the video from her hospital bed as she was on oxygen and struggling to speak.
“I did not get the vaccine. I am not anti-vax. I was just trying to do my research, ”says Blankenbiller. “I was scared and wanted my family and I to all do it at the same time.”
His sister, Cristina, said less than a week later that Blankenbiller was on a ventilator. Less than two weeks after the video was posted, Blankenbiller passed away.
Ashley Michaelis and Blankenbiller sang together in an acapella group called the Jax Treblemakers. To his friends and viewers on TikTok, Blankenbiller called himself Alex.
“She was one of those people who could absolutely change the energy in a room and light up a room as soon as she walked in,” Michaelis said, fighting back tears. “She really made all of our rehearsals fun.”

The video taken during Blakenbiller’s final days has gone viral on social media, reaching nearly a million views.
Some users said her story inspired them to take their photos.
His friends and family hope the message will be heard.
“I think it was a mistake,” says Blankenbiller. “I shouldn’t have waited. If you’re 70% sure you want the vaccine, go get it. “
