Jaguars coach Urban Meyer addresses the whole squad at Wednesday’s meeting

Urban Meyer continues to try to get out of the hole he dug this weekend.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported that Meyer spoke to his entire team on Wednesday to express remorse and responsibility for his actions, according to a source familiar with the situation.

NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala Adds that Meyer told his team that he has always cared about two things, his family (specifically mentioning his “37-year-old wife” Shelley) and his players.

“I embarrassed them both,” he said, according to Kinkhabwala.

The team reunion is Meyer’s final attempt to make amends for his actions over the weekend. The first-year head coach did not return home with the Jags after Thursday night’s defeat in Cincinnati. Instead, he stayed with his family. Meyer was then seen at a Columbus-area bar in viral videos over the weekend, one specifically showing a woman dancing near her knees.

Jaguar owner Shad Khan on Tuesday issued a reprimand for Meyer’s actions, noting that the coach had to “regain our trust and respect”.

Meyer said in a radio interview Tuesday night that the “conversations have been horrible” regarding the situation.

Meyer reportedly met with the position groups earlier in the week, but did not address the whole squad. Wednesday’s remarks were his first for the team as a whole.

The weeks ahead will tell if the Jags take a step forward or if Meyer’s situation continues to escalate behind the scenes.
