James Gunn reveals apparently dead member of Suicide Squad still alive

It would be TDK, also known as “The Detachable Kid,” played by James Gunn’s longtime pal and collaborator Nathan Fillion. In the film, the initial team of Task Force X are largely taken aback by TDK’s presence as his skills are a mystery to them. But once the team find themselves on the beach to take on Corto Maltese’s army, it is quickly established that his superpowers are hilarious and ineffective. He unties his arms from their sockets, sends them flying towards his enemies, and essentially slaps them before he’s immediately sent… or that’s what we thought.

According to Gunn, who took part in a live tweeting session of the film on Twitter last night, it’s “important to note if you’re watching the life signals in [Amanda Waller’s] Communication hub, TDK is not dead. Could the fact that his arms were separated from his downcast torso somehow explain the mechanics of how this character cheated death? And also take note of the specific language here: the fact that Gunn says it’s “important to note” could be a sneaky tease that Fillion might be back to reprise the role in future DC movies or TV projects.

Of course, TDK isn’t the only member of that first team who apparently died on this beach. The film has a mid-credits scene that reveals that Weasel, the hideous-looking anthropomorphic beast played by actor Sean Gunn, also managed to survive his apparent drowning in the film’s opening minutes. The credits scene picks up again with Weasel lying motionless on the beach at Corto Maltese – but he suddenly spits water, searches for air, gets up, looks around the empty beach, then rushes into the jungle, not to never to be seen again. For now, anyway.
