Washington football team came away with their first pre-season win on Friday night by beating the Cincinnati Bengals 17-13. One of the players who stood out for WFT was undrafted free running back Jaret Patterson.

Patterson got off to a solid preseason debut against the Patriots last week and chased it against the Bengals with 133 versatile yards. WFT already has its functionality in Antonio Gibson, but after that it’s wide open on the depth chart.

Statistics

Patterson tallied 71 yards on 16 carries (4.4 yards per carry) and one touchdown. He also added three receptions (three targets) for 25 yards and had a kickoff return of 37 yards.

Analysis

Patterson picked up where he left off at the University of Buffalo in the preseason. The 5-foot-8 backer has shown the college he can handle a heavy workload and so far in the preseason he has shown no signs of slowing down. Patterson gives WFT another option in the backfield, which can be effective in both running and passing games.

The undrafted free agent has surpassed veterans JD McKissic and Peyton Barber and is Gibson’s perfect complement. Patterson shows patience when carrying the ball and can run between tackles. The University of Buffalo star will have good value this year as an RB2 / FLEX option for a Washington offense that uses the running back a lot in a variety of ways.
