The Jacob Javits Center is officially a 24/7 vaccination site after state officials announced a pilot program to deliver its batch of COVID-19 bites at a dose of Johnson & Johnson, adding to the list of sites in the city that offer vaccines around the clock.

The dates were already booked for the night for the Johnson & Johnson shoot, which will only be offered in the huge Manhattan Convention Center from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., seven days a week. can also receive the vaccines produced by Moderna and Pfizer at the center during the day, although they need two doses given weeks apart. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a single dose. Any shot a New Yorker wants to receive requires an appointment. New Yorkers are required to make an appointment to receive the vaccine.

People now eligible to receive a vaccine include people over the age of 65, hospital workers and anyone with pre-existing conditions including cancer, kidney disease and pregnancy. People with immunocompromised conditions such as HIV and obesity are also eligible to receive the vaccine, bringing the current number of eligible New Yorkers to around 10 million in the state.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine arrived in New York on Thursday, bolstering Mayor Bill de Blasio’s goal of having 5 million doses administered by June. The city’s hospitals, clinics and vaccination sites have administered 2 million vaccines since the vaccine rollout began in mid-December. The city is also set to roll out a vaccination program for New Yorkers who are at home.

The same day the Johnson & Johnson arrived in New York City, a vaccination site in Co-Op City in the Bronx opened. Officials ushered in the opening on Saturday, with de Blasio recalling speaking to a retired officer named William, aware of the reluctance to be vaccinated.

“He had his own questions and hesitations,” said de Blasio. “But he said the more he saw, as millions and millions of people got vaccinated, the more he had confidence in himself, and he also wanted to make sure that when the time came, it was just one. injection.”

Other 24/7 sites that administer the Johnson & Johnson vaccine include Yankee Stadium, which began administering the vaccine Thursday between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.

The expansion comes as COVID-19 rates continue to decline in the state and in the city. According to state figures released on Saturday, the daily positivity rate in New York on Friday was 2.8%, the lowest since November 21. There have been 78 people who died in New York City, including nine in the Bronx, nine in Brooklyn, 11 in Manhattan and 12 in Queens.

In a statement, Governor Andrew Cuomo called the decrease “significant progress in reducing the spread of COVID while vaccinating residents as quickly as possible.”
