Anthony Davis is one of the best players in the NBA, but Colin Cowherd thinks the Boston Celtics would be crazy to exchange Jayson Tatum against the New Orleans Pelicans superstar.
The Celtics reportedly told pelicans by the February 7 NBA trade deadline that everyone – including Tatum, perhaps – may be available in an agreement for Davis this season. Boston apparently wants to pair Davis with Kyrie Irving, who can terminate his contract and become a free agent after this season, with the goal of becoming a finalist contender at the NBA Finals in the Eastern Conference.
Cowherd does not understand the rush to trade Tatum against Davis, despite the proven record of the latter as an All-Star six times. Tatum, a solid shooter, just turned 21, has no history of injury and has already demonstrated excellent leadership skills. Davis, 26, is 26 years old. He ran out of time in the past and can become a free agent after the 2019-2020 campaign.
Perhaps Cowherd underestimates how good Davis has been since entering the league as the No. 1 pick in 2012. Perhaps he even overestimates Tatum, who has not taken a step forward this season after showing his huge playoff potential last season.
