There was blood in the water when he arrived at Marvel TV in recent months. The partnership between Netflix and Marvel seems to have ended. Marvel has canceled the last two shows just today, but one of the biggest surprises was announced earlier this month when it was announced Legion ended after the third season to come. Many Marvel TV shows have been canceled recently, but Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb told the Decision-maker that he wanted to clarify that what happened at Netflix is not the same as what happened to Legion.
"I would like to somehow shave this story a bit," Loeb said in an individual interview with Decider. "When Noah [Hawley] arrived the first day and told us what he wanted to do, he told us the end of the story. It was not like "I do not really understand where it's going to go, but that's what I want to do." I very often said that I was in the series as part of the Magical Mystery Tour and that Noah was our bus driver and he ended up saying, "Well, it's time to come down."
On television, it is very rare that a showrunner has the opportunity to end a show on his own terms. Sometimes a broadcast is suspended on the verge of cancellation and the network reaches an agreement that ends its days. For example; a show like IZombie was always on the verge of cancellation and they decided that the coming season would be the last. Legion is a show that was doing well and FX and Marvel have still decided to let showrunner Noah Hawley finish the show on its own terms.
"In [Legion‘s] In this case, Noah came to us and said, "This is where I want to end this particular story," and we said, "Great, that's perfect. Know that you are welcome and that the toys are always in the box. Come back, please, and play with the toys, "said Loeb. "It would not surprise me if we do something else. The same thing happens at FX. Yes [FX CEO] John Landgraf said tomorrow, "What do you think of …?" I would say, "That seems like the best thing, go ahead. Do it. So it's a very different situation. "
Looks like if Hawley had always wanted to play in the extremely unique universe that he had created, FX and Marvel would love to find him. For now, we have to wait until June to see how Hawley and his team decide to wrap up one of the most unique superhero shows ever created.
