Jets’ Zach Wilson struggles with groin injury

Zach Wilson suffers from a minor groin injury, although the Jets don’t expect it to limit him much this week. The rookie quarterback trained hard on Wednesday and head coach Robert Saleh raised the issue uninvited.

“He just woke up a little sore,” Saleh said. “Since they touched him in the training room I guess he must be on the list. It is not a problem.

Wilson struggled on his MetLife Stadium debut on Sunday, when he was intercepted four times in an unbalanced loss to the Patriots, after finishing strong in the team’s first week loss to the Panthers. The mobile flagger hasn’t run much yet, recording a total of 19 yards in two games.

“It’s a sensation. I think he had some trouble in the [Patriots] game, ”Saleh said. “He had one where he was tackled, it was canceled because of a maintenance penalty, on which we got the first goal. Then he had one where he rushed for a third conversion. This is going to be felt more and as he gets comfortable.

Rookie wide receiver Elijah Moore struggled to express what it was like to wrestle like he did in his NFL debut, when he only managed one catch for under-3 yards on four targets in the first game against the Panthers.

“It’s a feeling you can’t really explain,” said the second-round pick. “It’s just something moving forward [that] I know better how to attack. It is inexplicable.

Moore performed better last Sunday, catching four passes on eight targets for 47 yards. He said he felt more comfortable, but the loss negated all positives in his performance. This week, Saleh was walking around the premises after hours when he heard chatter coming out of the receiving room. It was Moore and position coach Miles Austin.

“[Moore] is purposeful, and he wants to be big, he wants to be special and he demonstrates it every day, ”Saleh said. “Now you just have to trust what you’re doing and get it to the soccer field on Sunday, and let it go. I think it’s only a matter of time before that happens.

John Franklin-Myers (calf) hasn’t trained, but Saleh expects DE to play on Sunday. The Jets hope to recover LB Jamien Sherwood (ankle) this week after missing the game against the Patriots. WR Jamison Crowder (groin) did not practice.

The Jets placed LB BJ Goodson on the reserve / retiree roster on Wednesday. The 28-year-old appeared in seven special team games on Sunday. He was a fourth-round pick for the Giants in 2016 and played for the Browns last year. The Jets signed him to a one-year contract in September.
