Democratic President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris announced on Sunday the creation of the White House’s first-ever all-female senior communications team.
“I am proud to announce today the White House’s first senior communications team composed entirely of women. These skilled and experienced communicators bring diverse perspectives to their work and a shared commitment to rebuilding this country for the better,” said Biden said in a statement.
“Communicating directly and honestly to the American people is one of the most important jobs of a president, and this team will be given the enormous responsibility of connecting the American people to the White House,” he added.
Most of the new team have previously worked for Biden and other Democrats. Jen Psaki, who was appointed White House Press Secretary, had served under the Obama administration as White House Director of Communications, Deputy White House Director of Communications, and Deputy White House Press Secretary .

“Honored to work again for @Joe Biden, a man I worked for during the Obama-Biden administration as he helped lead the economic recovery, rebuilt our relationships with our partners (proves a good practice) and injected empathy and humanity in almost every meeting I’ve attended, ”Psaki wrote in a tweet after the announcement.
Symone Sanders has been appointed senior advisor and chief spokesperson for the vice president. She previously worked as a senior advisor for Biden’s 2020 campaign after serving as Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2020 campaign press secretary.

Kate Bedingfield is expected to become Biden’s White House communications director. Prior to the announcement, Bedingfield was director of communications for the Biden campaign and deputy campaign director. She also worked for the former vice president under the Obama administration.

The main deputy to the Biden administration press secretary will be Karine Jean-Pierre, who has worked as an advisor for Biden’s 2020 campaign. Jean-Pierre was previously an MSNBC and NBC analyst.
Pili Tober, former deputy director of America’s Voice, a non-profit organization focused on immigration reform, has been appointed deputy director of communications for the White House.
Vice President-elect Harris’ director of communications will be Ashley Etienne, who also worked on Biden’s campaign as an adviser. Etienne had been director of communications and senior advisor to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“On behalf of our Democratic majority in the House, I congratulate Ashley and thank her for her important and impactful service in my office and in the House,” Pelosi said in a statement. “Her experience working on both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue and the immense respect she garners among members and staff will make her a powerful force in the Biden-Harris administration.”
Former senior Biden campaign adviser Elizabeth Alexander has been appointed director of communications for First Lady Jill Biden.
“Honored and honored to join @DrBiden and her growing team as she charts her own historic path as the next FLOTUS. And so proud [to] be part of that group of hardworking professionals and strategic communicators, ”Alexander wrote on Twitter.
