John Gilbert Getty – an heir to Getty’s oil fortune – is believed to have died in Texas on Friday. He was 52 years old.
Getty was found unresponsive in a San Antonio hotel room and no foul play is suspected, law enforcement sources told TMZ.
“With a heavy heart, Gordon Getty announces the death of his son, John Gilbert Getty,” a family spokesperson told the newspaper.
“John was a talented musician who loved rock and roll. He will be deeply missed, ”said the representative.
Getty was the grandson of oil magnate J. Paul Getty. He has had multiple homes in Los Angeles and in 2018 he bought a $ 3.9 million property in Hollywood Hills West, the Los Angeles Times reported.
In 2015, Getty’s brother Andrew Getty died of an ulcer-related hemorrhage at his Los Angeles home.
Andrew was also found to have a toxic level of methamphetamine in his body.
That same year, Forbes estimated the fortune of the Getty family at $ 5 billion.
