Guitarist John Mayer has just released a new single, "Carry Me Away", marking its second release in 2019. "Carry Me Away" follows "I guess I feel like" in February was accompanied by a new video clip highlighting the recent recording session of Mayer. A few minutes before Mayer officially released the new song, he launched the live performance of "Carry Me Away" during a show in Dallas, TX American Airlines Arena.
Mayer shared his thoughts on the new version via Facebook. He explained,
I did not see this tour come that would have so much life and energy, so when it was time to take a break of two weeks, I found myself wanting to create. My vacation desires were simple: live in shorts and with a t-shirt, play with my dog in the sun and live a simple and happy life, while writing this song that whirled in my head. I present "Carry Me Away", made with the same love that you sent me during this race. I hope you enjoy this postcard of late summer. You know where to find it …
During his performance on Thursday night in Dallas, Mayer told the crowd shortly before the release of the single: "It's coming out at 11 pm in this time zone and how unfair would it be to take you a minute? play this song coming out tonight and that's called "Carry Me Away." I'll never know what these things are before a year, but that's another song I wrote that made me happy and who goes like that … "
