Johnny Depp Brings Amber to Justice for Defamation – Variety

Johnny Depp allegedly filed a defamation suit against his ex-wife Amber Heard for his December editorial in The Washington Post, detailing her alleged experiences of domestic violence without naming Depp.

The lawsuit, which is about $ 50 million, says Heard "is not a victim of domestic violence, she is the author." The prosecution also denies that Depp has previously mistreated Heard, and claims that his allegations were part of a "hoax developed to generate positive publicity" for the "Aquaman" star.

"The op-ed depended on the central premise that Mrs. Heard was a victim of domestic violence and that Mr. Depp had perpetrated domestic violence against her," say Depp's lawyers.

"I became a public figure of domestic violence and I felt the full force of the anger of our culture towards the women who express it," wrote Heard in the editorial.

"This frivolous action is only the last of Johnny Depp's repeated efforts to silence Amber Heard," Heard's attorney said. "Mr. Depp's actions prove that he is unable to accept the truth about his abusive behavior going on.But, even though he seems resolutely determined to achieve self-destruction, we will not be able to accept the truth about his abusive behavior. will defeat this baseless trial and end the ongoing harassment of my client by Mr. Depp and his legal team. "

Heard and Depp got married in 2015 after meeting in 2011 on the set of "The Rum Diary". Heard filed for divorce in 2016 after claiming that Depp was violent towards her and had donated the $ 7 million settlement from a charitable spin-off.

The pursuit is just the last tangle of Depp. He sued his former officers, who were amicably settled, along with his former lawyer, which allowed Depp to win a win over the unwritten contract of the pair.
