June 2021 NPD: Xbox Series X, S consoles lead dollar sales, Nintendo Switch sold most units

Mat Piscatella, analyst for the NPD group which focuses on the gaming industry, details the results of the US market each month. For the month of June 2021, Piscatella’s Twitter feed revealed the best-selling consoles and games, including news that the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles were the month’s best-sellers in dollars, setting a new Xbox sales record in June. The Nintendo Switch kept its best-selling console streak in sold units.

Supply continues to be well below overall demand for Xbox Series consoles and Sony’s PS5, the latter currently being the best-selling console in US history. In addition to chip shortages, Microsoft has upgraded its Xbox Cloud Gaming servers to Xbox Series X hardware, enabling 1080p 60 FPS streaming and the ability to stream certain Xbox Series Optimized games.

For games, the PS5 exclusive Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was the best-selling game of June 2021. Resident Evil Village fell to sixth place, while Sea of ​​Thieves returned to the top 20 games, growing thanks to the recent expansion, A Pirate’s Life.
