Man accidentally shoots himself in Springfield parking lot, sent to hospital for treatment

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – A man who was found with a gunshot wound near downtown Springfield accidentally shot himself, police say.

Police say the man has been sent to hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Officers responded to a parking lot in the 1100 block of North Boonville, just north of the Greene County Courthouse, around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said a gun was accidentally discharged, resulting in a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The man has not been identified and his exact condition is unknown at this time, but he is expected to survive.

The Springfield Police Department is investigating the incident. Additional details are limited, but we will update as more information becomes available.
