Police publish new videos in the Smollett case

CBS Chicago reports that a special prosecutor will look into the Jussie Smollett case. Dan Webb, a former US prosecutor and a special advocate in the Iran-Contra case, has been involved in this role. This is the sixth time that he is appointed special attorney in a case.

Webb said he planned to appeal to a special grand jury to participate in the investigation and that the latter could decide if new charges are warranted. "I start this business fresh today," said Webb.

"At the beginning of the case, I will arrange interviews with some witnesses who I believe are key witnesses who are important to the case," added Webb.

Smollett is accused of lying to the Chicago police by telling them in January that he had been beaten and victim of a racist and homophobic hate crime.

Video of the Police Corps Camera from that night showed a rope draped around the neck of the actor.

The charges were suddenly dropped against Smollett by Cook County Lawyer Kim Foxx, who is to be re-elected. Once Foxx dropped these charges, the petitioner Sheila O. Brien, a retired judge, asked questions and asked to appoint the special prosecutor.

A judge granted this request, finding that Foxx was not following the procedure when she recused herself.

There is no schedule for the Webb survey.
