Written by Kang and located in present-day Hawaii, Doogie Kameāloha, MD reimagines Neil Patrick Harris’ half-hour medical-drama comedy with a female lead. Guiding Lahela – and complicating things as well – are her family, including her Irish spitfire mother Dr. Clara Hannon (Perkins), who is also the hospital’s chief of staff and supervisor at Lahela, and her Hawaiian father “Local Boy” who has difficulty accepting that his daughter is no longer his granddaughter.
