KAUKAUNA – With a playoff qualifying win on the line, the Kaukauna Ghosts found several ways to score in a 45-19 Fox Valley Association Conference victory over the Neenah Rockets on reunion night.

The Rockets appeared to have started early, scoring on a 66-yard rush just two minutes into the first quarter, while Kaukauna fumbled for possession.

But Kaukauna wasn’t going to stay on the ground for long.

However, in the Rockets’ next game, the ball broke off the snap and the Ghosts recovered in the end zone to quickly tie the score at 7.

Kaukauna then managed to recover a surprise kick and the Ghosts were driving again, but a fourth save from Neenah ended the threat.

After Neenah kicked his first possession of the second quarter, Kaukauna came out aggressively, scoring quickly over three games. A long run from Hunter Natrop followed by another track from Jakob Brockman moved the ball to Neenah 12. Natrop then scored, putting the Ghosts in the top 14-7.

On Neenah’s next possession, the Ghosts blocked a punt to put them on both Rockets. Two games later, Noah Hofmann’s one-yard touchdown run gave Kaukauna a 21-7 lead with 8:44 remaining in the period.

Neenah scored late in the quarter, but missed the PAT, to enter halftime with a 21-13 lead over Kaukauna.

Kaukauna received the ball to start the second half, and a big comeback from Hofmann set the Ghosts in place at the nine Neenah. A 22-yard field goal from Kyle Seefeldt gave Kaukauna a 24-13 lead.

On Kaukauna’s next possession, a 47-yard pass from Garrett Weyenberg to Carson Sippel gave the Ghosts a 31-13 lead.

In their third possession of the quarter, Kaukauna scored again on a one-yard run from Hofmann to give the Ghosts a 38-13 lead with 1:13 remaining in the third.

A Neenah fumble to start the fourth put the ball back into Kaukauna’s hands. A 2-yard run by Natrop to cap a 70-yard run gave the Ghosts a 45-13 lead and the rout was underway.

A late score from Neenah closed the gap to 45-19.

Kaukauna ends the season with an away game at Appleton East, followed by a big home showdown against Kimberly.
