Officially a member of the Warriors for less than two weeks, Kelly Oubre Jr. is already gorging on the diet served by Stephen Curry.
The captain’s food, intended to nourish relationships, is informative rather than critical. It’s heavy on work ethic, culture and character. There is a generous amount of humor. And a big “W” is always on the table.
It’s the same “Welcome to the Warriors” board that Curry places in front of every new member of the team – or even those who are considering joining the franchise. Some love it, some love it. Oubre seems to like it.
“He’s an amazing person, he’s a pro of the pros and he’s a real leader,” Oubre said of Curry on Friday.

What tends to be overshadowed by Curry’s spectacular performances on the pitch is his low-key yet deeply respected and effective leadership style. He is openly welcoming. Don’t ask any more of anyone than he asks of himself, not declaiming, looking at the stray teammates and there is no history of relegating any of them to “cast of support”.
Whether it’s Kevin Durant or Kent Bazemore, David Lee or Damion Lee, Curry is the same dude, setting the same tone, a refreshing breeze that complements those hot Draymond Green blasts.
And Oubre, who turns 25 next week, is immediately delighted.
“It’s been really nice just communicating with him off the pitch,” he said. “This is someone you love. There is nothing you can really do to not know it. He contacted me and we connected off the pitch more than on the ground (due to COVID-19 protocols) because we can’t really work together.
“But just to be able to see him training on the pitch as well, it was fair. . . it is (reflecting) his character off the pitch. He’s a very transparent individual, so it’s been amazing.
The Warriors are Oubre’s fourth NBA team and third locker room in five years. After more than three years with the Wizards, he was traded to the Suns at the start of the 2018-19 season and spent the remainder of that season and the entire 2019-20 year in Phoenix before being traded to Oklahoma City on last month. He was on the Thunder roster for less than a week before being acquired by the Warriors.
Since arriving in the Bay Area, Oubre has done his part to get to know the area and the people he will see regularly, from teammates and coaches, to medical and training staff and, of course, Eric Houson, the director of operations. tireless team.
So far, that was all Oubre could have wished for.

The low-stress, cheerful vibe of the team – attributed as much to Curry as to coach Steve Kerr – is in place for everyone to enjoy the grind. The team’s championship exploits validate the environment. Curry’s two MVP awards are his personal validation.
While Oubre is an intense contender, which the Warriors know from experience, Curry’s desire to win is no less intense. The youngster seems eager to vibrate with the veteran.
