Few people are as determined to tick off their 2018 New Year's resolutions as Jessica Morris.
Instead of the usual promise of health or alcohol, she promised to save a life this year and now she has, donating her kidney to a stranger.
did everything through the Craigslist advertising website.
The 30-year-old surgical technician from Orange County, California, began browsing the Internet in search of a worthwhile cause.
A few hours drive to San Francisco David Nachere, also 30, was in urgent need of kidney. Jessica decided to donate her organ.
Kidmates found themselves when Jessica was looking for someone to help on the Facebook group, Kidney Donors Network, and stumbled upon the David's Craigslist ad. 19659006] David had been suffering from terminal kidney failure for six and a half years and had resigned himself to the idea of dying. And, if it was not for Jessica's timely intervention, I would have suffered from this spell.
"I was looking for a while – but it was just an idea I wanted to do, rather than really doing it seriously" Jessica explains:
"It's easy to say you'll do something, it's another thing to do. I was pretty simple with David, he was probably thinking that I was weird. He was skeptical and hopeful, but you can tell that he was refusing to be too excited about it.
The donation process can be very difficult because donors do not always match and need to be approved for surgery. Dialysis patients may feel very discouraged after long periods of time when they can not find a suitable donor.
"David did not understand that his life was really going to change until he got the call to plan the surgery," Jessica said.
"I saw a different side of him at the hospital. He is really an incredible person, I am so happy that I could help him.

David's kidney had missed him when he was only three months old. He endured 27 operations throughout his life and was diagnosed with Crohn's disease before discovering that his kidneys could no longer function.
Thus, the freelance writer made one last attempt to find someone and publish the advertisement. First met, they immediately agreed and quickly received the approval they needed to carry out the operation, which was to be carried out two months later.
Their recovery experience also created a link between the two
"David has become like a brother to me," adds Jessica.
"At the hospital I had the impression of being my twin. He will always be part of my family and I will always be part of his family. This has been the most memorable experience of my life.
"We all seek a purpose in life, and you will never find any more rewarding than being the hero of someone."
