Ghana's Harmonious Choir arrives in South Africa before the World Choir Games

The only participant from Ghana, Harmonious Chorale, landed in Tshwane, South Africa, before the World Choir Games scheduled for July 4-14.

This is the first time Ghana has participated in the competition.

The World Choir Games is the largest choral event, with the idea based on the ideals of the Olympic Games, which aims to peacefully unify the peoples and nations bound by the song in a fair competition. Organized by Interkultur, this biennial event is the 10th edition and marks the 30th anniversary of Interkultur

It is also the first time that an Interkultur event is taking place on the African continent. All non – professional choirs of the world are invited for 11 days to meet singers from around the world during competitions, friendship concerts and major singing projects.

Under the direction of James Varrick Armaah, the team of 53 men composed of 44 singers, 4 keyboardists, 2 trumpeters and a sound engineer, Dominic Ansa-Asare will participate in the open competition in 3 categories and 1 category uncompetitive known as the Concert of Friendship.

The competitive categories in which the choir will participate are category 09 – Mixed Chorus, Category 16 – Musica Sacra with accompaniment, and Category 27 – Scenic Folklore.

The choirs will be evaluated by an international jury in accordance with the general system of evaluation MUSICA MUNDI (system of 30 points) and awarded diplomas of gold, silver and bronze

The choir who will receive the Gold Diploma with the most points will be awarded the title of "Winner of the World Choir Games – The Open Competition". 9005] The title can be given to a single choir by category. In case of a tie, the jury will determine which choir will be the winner of the "World Choir Games – The Open Competition"

Known for its rich and powerful voices, Harmonious Choir, resident choir of Salt and Light Music Ministry led by Reverend Joyce R. Aryee will present the Ghanaian brand of choral music, tradition and culture.

They will perform songs from the repertoire of renowned Ghanaian composers such as George Mensah Essilfie, J. H. Nketia, Sam Asare Bediako and James Varrick Armaah, whose popular chorus piece "Oye" will be presented with a different twist.

In the other two categories, the music of composers such as John Rutter, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Gabriel Faure, Henry Purcell and Newlove Annan will be presented.

The other participating African countries are Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Korea, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
