NAIROBI, July 12 (Xinhua) – Financial constraints mean that only 46 Kenyan athletes will go to the third Youth Games in Africa, to be held in Algiers, Algeria, July 18-27.

Mission, Humphrey Kayange laments the enormous challenge his team faces as they face the best of the continent in an open competition for athletes aged 15 to 18 years old.

Kayange said Thursday that it would be difficult for the country to imitate them four years ago in Botswana, where Kenya won 25 medals. Starting from an initial endowment of 18 disciplines with a budget of more than 500,000 dollars, Kenya will now count only five events for athletes.

"It is disappointing to take only five disciplines because they are elementary competitions I would have liked more young people to participate in such competitions as they are the future, but we can not do a lot with limited resources, "said Kayange in Nairobi

Kenya's National Olympic Committee (NOCK) said it has opted for all five disciplines due to financial constraints and that it will use games in Algeria for qualifying at the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October.
