A Kenyan researcher based in the United States was honored at a banquet in New York for his discoveries of drugs used to treat cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Dr. George Njoroge was awarded a "pioneering award" by Face2Face Africa, a pan-African media company, for its sustained impact on science and medicine.
The 64-year-old native of Kiambu holds more than 100 patents for his work on cancer and immunology.
Currently senior researcher at the global pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, Mr. Njoroge plans to move next year to Naivasha, where he creates a biotech institute.
Attract 100 PhDs from around the world to participate in the Institute's work on malaria, AIDS, diabetes and cancer.
