Jose Mourinho will be tempted to remind Ed Woodward of the events of last summer when he speaks to the executive vice president of Manchester United in Miami.
We expect the pair to meet while United gets closer to what was troubled tower. And Mourinho's relationship with Woodward is now the center of attention in what has been another frustrating transfer window.
United's manager was ready to bite his tongue when he left for the United States two and a half weeks ago. But his exasperation at the failure of his team led to increasingly tense public statements, which drew attention to Woodward.
He is looking for answers on transfer goals – even if he has reduced his expectations before the window closes on August 9 to count more than one.
Harry Maguire may be falling behind, leaving Mourinho running out of right wing as he first asked his board to sign there 12 month. The most feasible option was Ivan Perisic – that is why Mourinho was so disappointed when the price of Inter Milan was felt too high and that United entered the new season without the fourth signing of their manager was crucial for their title hopes.
Drive ahead and again, Mourinho seems to have to agree to be left short of staff.
The value of Perisic has increased dramatically after Neymar Mourinho resurrected his interest in Perisic "content =" https://i2-prod.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/article14935903.ece/ALTERNATES /s615b/0_GettyImages-999447248.jpg "/>
Mourinho resurrected his interest in Perisic.
Mourinho would have the right to remind Woodward that he could have signed the winger for much less than his current market value, which is in the region of £ 60-70m.
Sources claim United were reluctant to buy a player in his late 20s that could hinder the development of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. Yet that did not stop them from recruiting Alexis Sanchez, 29, in January
Mourinho was certainly pleased with the ambition to sign such a player – and steal him from Manchester City – only not solve the problem right that he had identified the previous summer.
Should he accept just one more signature – regardless of the position – it's hard to see that just turn one side that has finished 19 points drifting from City in the title material.
Especially when a substantially improved Liverpool is added to the mix.
Should Maguire – or even Toby Alderweireld – head to Old Trafford, Mourinho can look forward to an improvement to a solid defense, but he lacks cunning.
But he will remain with an unbalanced attack that has no obvious solution on the right.
