TAMPERE (Finland): Indian athletes have had mixed success at the IAAF World U20 Championships held on Friday at the Ratina Stadium.

In the men's javelin, Sahil Silwal manages to enter the final with an attempt of 73.22 meters. He took second place in Group A qualifying round behind Australian Nash Lowis. Lowis achieved a personal best score of 74.38m.

Arshdeep Singh, the other Indian scrum, finished 12th in Group A with a best attempt of 63.05m.

He reached the mark with his third throw, having scored 61.62m and 62.56m with his first two attempts.

Kangaraj Kamalraj did well in the qualifying round of the men's triple jump, managing to enter the final with a best effort of 15.98m.

This allowed him to take second place in Group A behind Frenchman Martin Lamou, who jumped to 16.26m.

Meanwhile, Ashish Jakhar showed an early promise in the men's hammer throw before having to settle for sixth position.

Party in the final with an attempt of 72.56m, the Indian tentatively takes third place with a throw of 74.59m.

But that eventually proved to be his best attempt in the final since he could only handle 72.69m, 71.46m, 72.39m and 74.34m with his subsequent throws.

Jake Norris of Great Britain won the gold medal with a best test of 80.65 m. Mykhaylo Kokhan of Ukraine won silver with a personal best throw of 79.68m while fellow countryman Mykhaylo Havryliuk (77.71) qualified for bronze with another best personal effort.

In the men's 4X100m relay, the Prajwal Mandanna Indian Quartet, Akash Kumar, Nithin Balakumar and P.S. Saneesh finished seventh and last in Heat 3 with a time of 41.11 seconds.
