Jeff Wilson

The Fairfield amateur golfer earned the amateur amateur title on Sunday at the United States Senior Open in Colorado Springs. Wilson, 55, became only the second player to finish as a low amateur at the US Open and Open Senior, joining Marvin's "Vinny" Giles III. Wilson tied for 31st place on Sunday at 10 points. He finished in front of circuit pros such as Fred Couples, Kenny Perry, Colin Montgomerie and Larry Mize. Wilson, general manager of a Vallejo car dealership, has played four times at the US Open and has earned amateur honors at the Pebble Beach 2000 Open.

Chris Froome

The Kenyan-born cyclist was whitened the International Cycling Union in a decision that will allow him to pursue a fifth record title in the Tour de France this week. Froome had run under the cloud of a potential ban after a urine sample provided during his victory at the Spanish Vuelta in September showed a concentration of the salbutamol asthma drug that was two times the level allowed. The use of Froome medication for asthma has been well documented, and it has often been spotted using inhalers during the races.
